Amsterdam Gastro Guide of De Pijp

Amsterdam Gastro Guide of De Pijp

Amsterdam is truly the city of cool, without a doubt one of my favorite cities to visit. I just love how cheerful and lively are the locals. It is the place where a construction worker will smile at you, wish you a nice day and mean it. If I had to describe the Netherland’s capital in one sentence I would say

it is a cross between the quirkiness of Shoreditch and elegant style of Notting Hill.

There is always something to do and to see in Amsterdam so my top tip is not to try and do it all in one sitting. I’ve decided to fully concentrate on the food scene in certain neighborhoods, which are notorious for their scrumptious eateries and quality coffee roasters.

The part one of the gastro Guide to Amsterdam is going to be about De Pijp. This neighborhood is vibrant, famously diverse, an up and coming district which I absolutely fell in love with and I’m sure you will too.

OMELEGG

We started our breakfast outings by trying Omlegg, a small place with a quirky wooden interior. I have to say, the omelets are outstanding and selection is only limited by your imagination. Plates are big and service is quick and friendly. Omelegg is dominated by locals, which is always a good sign. There is a very distinct buzzing vibe that will without a doubt energise you for the whole day. If you have deep cravings for an omelet this is the place to visit. You can get your egg on their instapage.

HAREWOOD BAKERY

We discovered this place on Instagram long before we even planned to come to Amsterdam. Lets be honest who doesn’t love pictures of doughnut&coffee on their insta feed, I do! So obviously, when we planned our trip Harewood Bakery was one of the first places we included in our “must-check-out” list. First thing you notice when coming in is the smell of freshly backed doughnuts and deep coffee aroma. So far so good? Wait till you going to bite into the cardamom cream filled doughnut. Soft, creamy, spicy. BOOM. Every mouthful is so joyful. Topped with absolutely awesome owner, Kim, who is happy to chat about anything and everything. This place just hits all the rights spots and I cannot recommend it enough. For more doughnut drooling pictures check out their insta.

BAKERS & ROASTERS

We were searching for a great Sunday brunch spot and found it. Bakers & Roasters is quite well known amongst local hipsters and food lovers. It is one of those food hubs that always has a queue, though don’t be discouraged it is worth the wait. From the decor to the music and to the food this place has it all! The pancakes are a freaking must. Lets be honest who doesn’t like fluffy American  blueberry pancakes topped with more blueberries, bacon and maple syrup. There is a great selection of juices to top up your vitamin levels, it is winter after all. I recommend the yellow juice with tumeric, super healthy and delicious. For the matcha fans good news, they also do matcha lattes and teas with the beautiful foam art on top. If you are looking for hearty breakfast, brunch or lunch options check them out.

 COFFEE AND COCONUTS

If I could just take this place and bring it to London, I would. The space is amazing- it is three stories high and has five different seating areas to hide away with you coffee date. Decor is super bright and airy, lots of white wood and green plants add to the chic yet relaxed feel. I believe Coffee&Coconuts  is that kind of place where you come for inspiration and imagination boost. There are plenty of people who are treating this place as a collaborative coffee-work hub and I could feel how I was one of them seating on the beanbags, drinking coffee and thinking of a next adventure. Great quality coffee and home made delicious food will keep your creative juices going for a long time. I recommend CC’s beet burger, super juicy vegetarian alternative. If you cant take whole place take a small part with you. So now I’m a proud owner of “Coffee and Coconuts” coffee cup which I use daily.

STACH

Another haven for coffee addicts and real foodies. Stach is a little neighborhood deli that dishes up fresh food with a twist. There you will find lots of eco friendly and organic products that are made with love. The piled high stack of baked goods and their amazingly packed healthy snacks in the window table will make anyone salivate daily. Do check their instapage for awesome photography and more.
