B.Y.O.C. Licence to Serve

B.Y.O.C. Licence to Serve

What’s B.Y.O.C. I hear you say? Simply put, it is Bring Your Own Cocktail, and watch skilled bartenders create flavoursome cocktails.  The concept is very unusual and it is so cool that you even get your very own mixologist to look after you and make sure you never run out of drinks.

The fact that very few people know about it makes it very special for me. The place is hidden from the crowds, entrance is a plain black door with small golden letters on a side confirming that you are in the right place indeed ( you might need to get involved your inner James Bond abilities here). After opening the door small steps lead to the basement. Decor is 20’s with low lights, old school radios and big jack tables dotted around the room. In fact, it reminds me more of a casino rather than a bar.

Mei-Lei: ‘Can I do anything for you, Mr. Bond?’

Bond: ‘Uh, just a drink. A martini, shaken, not stirred.’

As much as I love Bond I prefer my gin stirred with a little bit more flavour than an olive. Luckily for us, we had amazing Antonie looking after us that night and he came up with the freshest and most delicious cocktails I’ve tasted in a while. Of course, every single time he was walking us through what he was about to serve to us and whether we were happy with his creations. Needless to say, we were.

Let’s talk about rules now. You need to book in advance, it’s i£25 per person and that buys you two hours. You will be served 4-5 cocktails based on the spirit provided by you. If there is anything left- that’s yours to take back home. Remember, they don’t have an alcohol licence so there will be no alcohol only mixers. Therefore, if you fancy for example “brumble”, you will need to bring your own gin as well as blackberry liqueur. However, we managed to have amazing selection of different cocktails without any liqueurs.

In conclusion, this is the place you will tell to all of your friends and beyond. All of us who have been there so far absolutely loved it. I was blown away by the knowledge and the creativity of the bartenders. The atmosphere was so believably 20’s that you forget you are in 21st century London.

It is different and that what makes it so special. Next time you will be looking to surprise your friends or simply change the scenery you should defenetly check out B.Y.O.C. Pop to their homepage for more info.
