Flotsam and Jetsam Cafe – Story of the Unicorn

Flotsam and Jetsam Cafe – Story of the Unicorn

Flotsam and Jetsam cafe is a very cozy all day brunch spot located in South West London. Don’t let the location of the cafe fool you into thinking it is anything but top quality. The food is vibrant, delicious and most importantly seasonal (which actually means nutrition). The coffee is expertly crafted with all the necessary latte art we are all so used to. Flotsam & Jetsam is an excellent spot to satisfy all your brunch needs, meet up with friends over some tasty food and have a good time.Flotsam and Jetsam cafes interior shot, with the ship anchor in the background and the pastry counter in the foreground

Full disclosure, my interest towards this cafe peaked because of the ‘Unicorn’ white hot chocolate I recently found out about. The original plan was to simply snap a shot of it and be on my way. Little did I know what an amazing  brunch spot was hiding the desired beverage. The interior of Flotsam and Jetsam cafe has the same marine theme as they have in their name. It has a feel of a New Zealand or Australian inspired coffee shop and the overall vibe of the place is very homey. They also have whole shelves worth of T2 teas and that is a big plus in my book.A girl picking up a Unicorn white hot chocolate with a coconut yogurt breakfast bowl in the background at Flotsam and Jetsam.

Now, the menu itself is an all day brunch menu with a selection of dishes that changes depending on what is in season. The food portions are very generous, this will be a big perk for all those used to Central London eating. The presentation is spot on and the service is very friendly.  It’s too early to tell but this might be my new favorite brunch spot.Brunch menu selection at Flotsam and Jetsam cafe with Huevos rancheros, coconut yogurt bowl and BLT.

First thing I want to highlight is the delicious B-L-A-T or simply a BLT sandwich with smashed avocado. The toasted sandwich had mustard aioli instead of mayo that brought a new and exciting layer of flavor. Bacon was nice and crispy and each bite of the B-L-A-T was better than the last. We managed to finish it in no time at all.Mustard aioli and smashed avocado BLT sandwich from the menu at Flotsam and Jetsam brunch restaurant.

For those who feel extra hungry I definitely want to recommend to go for Huevos Rancheros as Flotsam & Jetsam serves some of the best I have tried in London. The smokey beans and chorizo work really well together with avocado and the two blue corn tortillas create one very stunning  plate of food. This is one breakfast dish to remember.Huevos Rancheros breakfast at Flotsam and Jetsam. A girl cutting into an egg yolk.

Now, the one menu item I am most excited to tell you about is the Coco-Mango Bircher. The breakfast bowl was absolutely bursting with flavor. The mix of oats, rye and barley, to my surprise, was not dry at all and delicious. I was expecting a plate full of ingredients that are good for you hence you must like them. What I got was a plate packed full with nutritious ingredients that easily overshadow any breakfast bowl I have ever made at home. Long story short, I really liked it.Coconut yogurt breakfast bowl with mango and pomegranate at Flotsam and Jetsam cafe.

Lastly, I want to talk about the drink that brought me here in the first place, the Unicorn white hot chocolate. While it is definitely a very pretty looking drink, perfect for all those Instagrammers out there, to me it felt like an unfinished project. There was definitely a hint of white chocolate in there somewhere but, for the most part, it is just a frothed milk with some marshmallows. And when you add the £ 3,50 price tag to it one might wonder if it is worth it. On the other hand all other coffees were perfect and can easily stand next some of the best in London.Unicorn white hot chocolate at Flotsam & Jetsam in South West London.Girl picking up a white hot chocolate with marshmallows, shot from above.

Saying all that, I am still really glad that they have it on their menu as, otherwise, I would have never discovered this place for myself. Maybe if Flotsam & Jetsam team could get together and intensify the flavors a bit we might have a really cool girly beverage, but as it stands now it is just a gimmicky drink.Flotsam & Jetsam cafe takeaway cup with a ship anchor in the background.

I feel like I have rambled here for long enough, you get the idea.  I want to finish on a positive note by saying that I will definitely be returning here for more delicious food. For me, these guys ticked all the right boxes when it comes to menu and service. Flotsam and Jetsam cafe is definitely worth your time. So, go ahead, star it on your google maps.
