Scandinavian breakfast and Coffee in London

Scandinavian breakfast and Coffee in London

There are certain coffee shops in London that get me inspired. Inspiration can come from various places: be it either the minimalistic yet cozy design, delicious food, strong coffee or interesting crowd wondering around. Somehow all my favorite coffee shops tend to have something in common, clean and healthy approach in everything that they do. They always deliver on pure culinary and caffeinated joy. I am more than pleased to share these inspirational places with you.

Lundenwic

This tiny Nordic-inspired  coffee shop located in Aldwych won my heart straight away.  The interiors feel light and fresh and oh-so-Scandi, with the focus on clean minimalistic fittings with plenty of natural light. Copenhagen inspired concept means you will find lots of healthy breakfast options as well as open sandwiches, don’t forget about most famous cinnamon buns of course. There you will find a clear emphasis on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, with one of my favorite autumn special being toasted rye bread topped with colorful tomatoes and beautiful lemony ricotta with chives- simple yet finger licking delicious.

The Monocle Café

This tiny but cozy cafe is a true hidden gem. I come here once a month to buy a new issue of Monocle magazine and get a cup of fresh grind ( £6 for both is quite a bargain).  Recently I learned that they do nutritious Japanese breakfasts made of tofu, Japanese omelet, and miso soup – the perfect companion for gloomy rainy days in London. Or if like me, you like your cured salmon with cream cheese on a bed of freshly toasted rye bread, then you shouldn’t miss Scandinavian breakfast. I love this place for its simplicity and great coffee and crowd around here always keeps me inspired.

Scandinavian Kitchen

Located in Fitzrovia, this small grocery shop also operates a deli cafe serving amazing open sandwiches, smörgåsbords. Open-topped rye bread or sourdough sandwiches served with the likes of Swedish meatballs or smoked salmon, gravlax. A three-piece plate costs £5.95 which will surely satisfy even a very hungry stomach. A haven for nordic expats, this shop stocks just about any hard-to-find ingredient you could wish for from Norway, Denmark, Sweden or Finland: I like to stock up here on flatbreads, pickled herring, and lunge berry jam of course. Otherwise, sweet treats are just that, whether a hefty portion of the apple and cinnamon buns or a zesty orange and chocolate brownie, yummilicios.
